Overview

Neverending Void is an endless, retro-inspired pixel art space shooter that pushes your reflexes and strategy to the limit. In this high-octane arcade experience, you pilot a nimble starfighter through an unceasing barrage of enemy waves. As you progress, the intensity ramps up, offering a fresh and increasingly challenging battle every time you play. Your ultimate goal: survive, score high, and etch your name on the leaderboard.

Key Features

Endless, Escalating Action:

Every session is a high-stakes test of precision and timing, where the onslaught grows more intense with each passing moment.

Retro Pixel Art Aesthetic:

Meticulously crafted pixel art and parallax scrolling backgrounds evoke a nostalgic arcade feel, enhanced by modern gameplay mechanics.

Upgradable Arsenal:

Collect power-ups and upgrades throughout your run. Experiment with different weapon configurations and see which setup suits your play style best.

Competitive Leaderboards:

Every run challenges you to beat your personal best. High scores are recorded and can be compared with friends, ensuring a constant drive to improve.

Intuitive Touch Controls:

Designed specifically for mobile devices, the touch controls let you move your starfighter smoothly across the screen, ensuring gameplay remains engaging and accessible.

Gameplay Mechanics

Infinite Waves:

The game never ends. Enemies are continuously spawned in waves that progressively increase in difficulty. Each enemy wave is designed to test your agility and tactical decision-making.

Dynamic Enemy Behavior:

Enemies vary in type and characteristics. They come with different base stats (health, speed) and can even be modified with random upgrades during gameplay (e.g., increased damage, altered firing rate, or projectile speed). This dynamic modifier system ensures every playthrough is unique.

Power-Ups & Drops:

Destroyed enemies can drop power-ups. These drops come in three types:

           • Upgrade Drops: Enhance your ship by improving weapon damage, rate of fire, or by restoring health.

        • Shield Drops: Collectible shield drops provide a buffer by absorbing damage before it affects your health, allowing for a brief respite during intense combat.

          • Weapon Drops: Present the option to swap out your current weapon. When a weapon drop is collected, the game briefly pauses to let you decide if you want to upgrade your arsenal.

Weapon Systems:

Your starfighter is equipped with dual weapon systems:

           • Primary Weapon: Auto-fires and may operate as a single or dual cannon system, depending on upgrades.

Main Canon: Shoots a single, focused projectile directly ahead.

Dual Canon: Unleashes dual cannons with projectiles fired from the left and right of the ship, effectively covering a wider area.

           • Secondary Weapon: Fires automatically after a cooldown period, offering distinct offensive capabilities.

Neutron Bomb: Delivers a powerful payload that deals significant damage with a slower flying rhythm.

Laser Cannon: Offers rapid flying payload with a focus on precision and opportunity.

Damage & Invincibility: The player can take damage from enemy collisions, projectiles, or direct enemy contact. After taking damage, a brief invincibility period is granted to allow recovery and prevent immediate successive hits. Shields absorb damage before affecting your health.

Low Life Alert:

When your ship’s health reaches a critical level (specifically when you’re down to a single life), a built-in low life alert is triggered:

Visual Cue: A red overlay flashes on the screen along with a prominent “DANGER” message, ensuring you immediately recognize the urgency of your situation.

Audio Cue: The background music volume is automatically lowered and an urgent audio alert is played, drawing your attention to the imminent threat.

Purpose: This alert system is designed to give you a split-second advantage to adjust your tactics, dodge incoming fire, and possibly secure a power-up to boost your defenses.

User Interface & Controls

Score Label:

Displays your current score, which increases with enemy kills and successful power-up collections.

Timer Label:

Shows how long you’ve survived. This timer adds an element of urgency and progress to each run.

Life Label & Move Feedback:

Your current health is displayed, with dynamic feedback showing damage taken (in red) or healing (in green).

Secondary Weapon Countdown:

A dedicated label shows the cooldown period for your secondary weapon, helping you time your shots strategically.

Pause Button:

Access the pause menu to resume, restart, or quit the game. The pause menu also handles special interactions like weapon swap confirmations.

In-Game Popups:

Special popups appear during key moments (e.g., when a weapon drop is collected) to give you choices that can change your loadout.

Audio & Visual Experience

Sound Effects & Music:

The game features dynamic sound effects that respond to in-game events such as enemy hits, power-up pickups, and explosions. The background music adapts to the gameplay, creating an immersive experience while allowing players to toggle sound settings as desired.

Visual Feedback:

Upgrades and damage are communicated visually through animations, flashing effects, and on-screen labels. This not only adds to the immersive experience but also helps you quickly assess the state of your ship during intense gameplay.

How to Play

1. Launching the Game:

Start from the main menu where you can choose to begin a new game, view high scores, or quit.

2. Controlling Your Starfighter:

• Use touch gestures to move your ship. The movement is smoothly clamped within the screen boundaries to keep the action in view.

• Your primary weapon fires automatically based on its rate of fire, while your secondary weapon fires after its cooldown period (visible on screen).

3. Engaging Enemies:

• Enemies will appear in varying formations and with different abilities.

• Dodge enemy projectiles and avoid collisions, all while counter-attacking with your ship’s weaponry.

4. Collecting Power-Ups:

• Destroy enemies to trigger drops. Decide quickly when a weapon drop is offered—choose whether to switch your current weapon or stick with your setup.

• Power-ups can improve your firepower, provide temporary shields, or restore health.

5. Surviving & Scoring:

• Your score increases with each enemy destroyed.

• Aim to survive as long as possible, with every second adding to the challenge and pushing you to beat your personal best.

• Keep an eye on your health. When it drops to a critical level, a low life alert will immediately notify you with both visual and audio signals.

• Your high score will be registered only when your ship explodes and the top 5 scores can be seen from the main menu option High Scores

6. Pausing & Muting Sounds:

• Use the pause button to take a break or adjust your strategy.

• There is a permanently visible sound on or off button to control the game’s global sound.

Known Issues & Future Updates

Known Issues:

• Minor visual glitches may occur during rapid enemy spawns.

• In rare cases, certain weapon swap popups might delay the game resumption by a fraction of a second.

Enhanced Enemy AI: Improvements are planned for more varied enemy movement patterns and smarter behaviors.

Additional Power-Ups: Expect new upgrade types and temporary boosts in upcoming updates.

Online Leaderboards: Future versions may include global leaderboards and friend challenges.

Missions: Complete missions to gain extra points.
